Tuesday Tidbits

Back for another weekly edition of Tuesday's Tidbits:

  • I am ready to go Sky Diving when Todd is.
  • Officiating in the Super Bowl was highly questionable.
  • Not too interested in the winter olympics.
  • Multiple days rioting over a Danish cartoon about Mohammed- Absurd.
  • Bush's budget creates a $423 billion deficit- Conservative Government? I think not.
  • Bush's budget = $20,000 per household in taxes.
  • FEMA cuts paying hotel bills to Katrina evacuees today. Probably need that money for Iraq.
  • I already miss football.
  • Most boring Super Bowl of my lifetime.
  • In response to cartoon about Mohammed, Iran launches contest for best holocaust cartoon. Need I say anything?
  • Am I the only one who doesn't watch 24?
  • "Short History Of Nearly Everything" is a great book. Written in Bryson's witty style, a laymans guide to science.
  • Very appropriate Time magazine cover "Is America Flunking Science?" Haven't read the article yet, but we are constantly falling behind in number of graduates in science and engineering.
  • Looking forward to Michelle's birthday at Swallow at the Hallow. Live country music should be interesting.
  • Finally we get winter weather. Not complaining since we have been extremely fortunate this winter.
  • Oysterfest at Steamhouse lounge is coming Feb 18th and Feb 19th. Anybody interested?
  • Valentine's Day in Mobile on business by myself. Now that's romantic.
  • Last basketball game for me tonight. Not ready for it to end. Very quick season with being gone for the first month.
  • Jimmy Buffett better come to Atlanta this year.
  • I better win the lottery for Red Sox tickets.
  • February is the deadest month of the year for sports.

Do you really think we should continue to pay for Katrina evacuees? It's been 5 months - if you don't cut people off at some point they will continue to take advantage. Look at welfare. Yes I feel sorry for people that lost their entire life in NO, but I think we the taxpayers have paid enough.

You make a very valid argument and I for the most part agree with you.

Would you rather spend your money on helping the folks in NO or the war in Iraq?

    Todd,
Surprised there wasn't an additional comment about how my blog sucks. lol

I didn't say anything about your blog sucking because that wasn't me earlier. It sucks though, and I'm ready for skydiving.

Deb, I love how you like to meddle in American politics. I agree with John. That's like these mansions on the coast that get destroyed in a hurricane. I feel no compassion for them either when they lose their million dollar homes and don't have insurance.

People would rather look to the government to bail them out of situations like this than take accountability for themselves. There are stories all over the map about abuse of the FEMA money. It has to stop and it might as well stop now.

Oh, and tax cuts for the wealthy? I highly doubt many people in New Orleans even paid taxes. The only ones that do in the US are the wealthy. I'll give you a pass on not knowing that though since you're Australian.

And just so you know, I have ZERO compassion.

    Deb,
I'm specifically speaking about continuing to pay to house the Katrina evacuees in hotels etc. How long should we be expected to foot the bill for that? Honestly they've had 5 months to start their life over in another city where everything has been provided for them. Clothing, money, food, lodging, etc. 5 months is plenty of time to start over in my opinion. If not they can live in section 8 housing for pretty close to free, collect food stamps, and collect welfare like everyone else that wants to take advantage of the taxpayers. Why should they get it better than the regular bums in the US?

The people that were kicked out were ones that didn't file for an extension.. they do have until March 1st..

After weeks of warning from federal authorities and hotel operators, Tuesday was checkout day in roughly 1,500 hotel rooms across Georgia for hurricane evacuees who did not seek an extension of federal funding for the rooms. Evacuees who registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency have checkout dates in coming weeks, with March 1 set as the final deadline for FEMA to stop paying for hotel rooms.

Well Deb, I learn something new everyday. You may be half a world away, but at least you care. I guess my vote will just have to cancel yours out!

And don't worry, this wouldn't turn into a shitfight anyway. Personally, I think we should turn our attention to more pressing matters such as the rather quick demise of "Humpday Humor."
